Mitchell Chang, professor of education at the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Studies, has been named a 2016 Fellow by the American Education Research Association. He is one of 22 scholars selected for this honor this year in recognition of notable and sustained research achievements.
Chang, who is also holds a faculty appointment in UCLA’s Asian American studies department, does research that focuses on the educational efficacy of diversity-related initiatives on college campuses and how to apply those best practices toward advancing student learning and democratizing institutions. He will present his recent research on the educational experiences of Asian American and Pacific Islanders at the association’s annual meeting in April in Washington, D.C.
The author of numerous articles on diversity in higher education, Chang has served on the editorial boards of several journals, including the American Educational Research Journal, the Journal of Diversity in Higher Education, Equity and Excellence in Education, The Review of Higher Education, Amerasia and Liberal Education.
