“Music of Mexico and Music of Cuba” fills Schoenberg Hall on Sunday, May 20, 8 p.m.
The Music of Mexico Ensemble, under the direction of UCLA lecturer and 2009 Grammy Award winner Jesús Guzmán, will present mariachi music in a variety of styles from various regions of Mexico, including son jalisiense, son huasteco, bolero, ranchera and huapango. Also performing is the Music of Cuba Ensemble, a group of guest artists visiting from Cuba.
The concert is the latest in the department of ethnomusicology’s Spring Festival of World Music and Jazz 2016, which runs through May 24.
