Is the University of California a good employer? Yes, employees responded in the employment engagement survey recently conducted by the UC Office of the President and the Council of University of California Staff Assemblies. Learn about the survey findings — including employees’ thoughts on opportunities for improvement — at a Learn-at-Lunch hosted by UCLA Staff Assembly on Friday, Nov. 13, noon-1 p.m. at the James West Alumni Center, Collins Conference Room.
Last March, UC’s 2015 employment engagement survey was sent to 20,000 randomly selected, non-represented staff across all UC campuses, asking their opinions about several work-related categories, from their work relationships and supervision to career development and organizational change. Forty-six percent — nearly 10,000 employees — completed the survey and provided more than 5,000 comments. Union-represented employees did not participate because UC receives their feedback through their union representatives during the collective bargaining process.
Compared to a similar survey conducted in 2012, more UC employees had a favorable opinion about their ability to communicate with their supervisor and other leaders, and more expressed positive regard for the university and career development opportunities. But respondents added there are opportunities for improvement, particularly in the areas of change management, change-related communications and supervisor support for training.
UCLA staff are invited to the Nov. 13 event to ask questions about the survey results and help explore next steps for making UC an even better place to work. Light refreshments will be served. Space is limited, so RSVP here today. Got questions? Email Mike Lee, UCLA Staff Assembly president.
