The UCLA Luskin Center for Innovation presents Mary Ellen Hannibal, award-winning author and environmental thought leader, on Monday, Nov. 14, 5 to 7 p.m. at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs, Room 2355.
Hannibal will discuss her new book, “Citizen Scientist: Searching for Heroes and Hope in an Age of Extinction,” a literary, historic, scientific and personal inquiry into the tech-enabled revolution changing our concept of what science is, who gets to do it, and what it is for. Joining her in a panel discussion will be Jon Christensen of the UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability; H. Bradley Shaffer of the UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability and UCLA La Kretz Center for Conservation Science; and Lila Higgins of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.
Hannibal, a Stanford Media Fellow, is the recipient of numerous fellowships and awards, including the National Science Writers Association's Science and Society Award. Her previous books include “The Spine of the Continent: The Race To Save America's Last, Best Wilderness" (Lyons Press, 2013). She has written for many publications, including The New York Times, The San Francisco Chronicle, Bay Nature, Nautilus, and High Country News.
