The UCLA Film and Television Archive will host the west coast premiere of “The Gangster’s Daughter” (Taiwan, 2017) at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 20. The screening of director Chen Mei-Juin’s debut feature film will be shown in the Billy Wilder Theater at the Hammer Museum.
The film reaches back to the coming of age stories of early Hou Hsiao-hsien classics like “The Boys From Fengkuei” while updating them to teeming 21st-century Taipei, the brave new underworld of drug trafficking, and the bittersweet dilemmas of single parenting.
Tickets are available online for $10 or at the box office for $9 general admission. UCLA students can attend the screening for free; UCLA Alumni Association members, non-UCLA students and seniors can purchase tickets at the box office for $8.
