For those looking to understand a proposal to limit the president's ability to use nuclear weapons, the Burkle Center for International Relations and the International and Comparative Law Program at UCLA School of Law will be hosting U.S. Rep Ted Lieu on Monday, Oct. 30 at 11:15 a.m. at the law school.
Lieu will discuss the legislation that he introduced in January with Senator Edward Markey (D–Massachusetts), the Restricting First Use of Nuclear Weapons Act of 2017. This legislation would prohibit the president from launching a nuclear first strike without a declaration of war by Congress.
Lieu currently serves on the House Judiciary Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee. He was also appointed as an assistant whip for the Democratic caucus. Lieu has established himself as a leader on the environment, cybersecurity, civil liberties and veterans.
