Professor Panagiotis Christofides is the new chair of the department of chemical and biomolecular engineering at the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science. He serves on the faculty in that department as well as the department of electrical engineering.
Christofides' research interests include nonlinear and predictive control, and analysis and control of distributed parameter systems, multiscale systems and hybrid systems, with applications to chemical processes, advanced materials processing, particulate processes, energy and water systems. He has published seven books and more than 450 articles in leading scientific journals and conference proceedings. His awards include the CAREER award from the National Science Foundation, the Young Investigator Award from the Office of Naval Research, the Donald P. Eckman Award from the American Automatic Control Council and two O. Hugo Schuck Best Paper Awards from 2000 and 2004.
