It's October, and UCLA Transportation is once again inviting faculty and staff to rethink their commute during Sustainable Transportation Month. By choosing an alternative to driving alone — like walking, biking, taking public transit, carpooling or telecommuting — Bruins can help reduce traffic, improve air quality and support a healthier community.
Those who pledge to try a sustainable commute option for at least one trip in October will be entered into a drawing for prizes including gift cards,UCLA football tickets and a two-night stay at the UCLA Lake Arrowhead Lodge.
UCLA offers a wide range of sustainable and affordable commuting choices. Heavily subsidized or free transit passes are available for multiple agencies serving the campus. For those who share the ride, a carpool matching tool helps connect employees from the same area, with groups sharing the cost of a discounted permit. Cyclists benefit from miles of bike lanes, more than 3,500 bike parking spaces and programs valued at $100 for eligible employees. For shorter trips, Bruins can take advantage of the free BruinBus service or enjoy the pedestrian-friendly campus design.
