Jody Kreiman, professor of head and neck surgery in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, received UCLA Academic Senate’s inaugural Service Award in recognition of her long record of service to the campus.
The award recognizes a member of the senate whose activities have enhanced the university’s mission of education, research and service. Kreiman was recognized for her continued involvement in multiple Academic Senate committees, where she advocated for equity and inclusion and promoted gender diversity in her field by serving as a mentor to colleagues in her departments. Kreiman has also guided many colleagues through the tenure and promotion process and advocated for the acquisition and storage of scholarly materials on campus. She currently continues to serve the senate as chair of the charges committee, which conducts investigations on possible violations of the faculty code of conduct.
“Without members like Professor Kreiman the Senate could not uphold its mission to enable the faculty to exercise its right to shared governance,” said Joseph Bristow, chair of the senate, and José Luiz Passos, chair of the Academic Senate Service Award Committee in an announcement. “She truly believes in the importance of a balanced academic life spanning the triad of excellence in academics, teaching, and service. Please join me in thanking Professor Kreiman for her over-and-above service to the Academic Senate and UCLA.”
Kreiman, who is also a professor of linguistics in the UCLA College, studies the perception, production and acoustics of the human voice. She is a fellow of the Acoustical Society of America and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
