Sudipto Banerjee, professor of biostatistics in the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, received the 2019 George W. Snedecor Award from the Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies.
The award, established in 1976, honors an individual who has contributed to the development of statistical theory in biometry. Banerjee was recognized for his fundamental work on Bayesian hierarchical modeling, the mapping of disease incidence and the analysis of environmental exposures.
Banerjee is an expert in statistical modeling and analysis of geographically referenced datasets, statistical computing and related software development. In 2018, he was named fellow of the International Society for Bayesian Analysis.
