Dr. Patricia Lester, professor of psychiatry at UCLA, has received the 2018 Irving Philips award for prevention from the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
Lester’s work focuses on the development, evaluation and implementation of family centered prevention and treatment for families facing the impact of military deployments, traumatic events and parental illness.
The academy promotes healthy development of children, adolescents and families through advocacy, education and research. Lester was recognized for her contributions to the prevention of mental illness in children and adolescents. Lester will be recognized and give an honors presentation about her research at the academy’s annual meeting on Oct. 25.
