Dr. Richard Shemin, the Robert and Kelly Day Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery, has been appointed chair of the California Department of Health Care Access and Information’s (HCAI) clinical advisory panel.
Shemin, chief of the division of cardiac surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, has served on the panel since 2013, providing clinical expertise as well as governance and organizational leadership.
“I am honored and excited to be appointed by the governor of California as chair of the clinical advisory panel for cardiovascular care in California,” Shemin said. “This responsibility to ensure excellence in cardiovascular care for all Californians through reliable, transparent, publicly reported data is impactful and extremely important.”
Shemin is renowned for his research that has advanced cardiovascular care and system performance. He is also a distinguished professor of surgery and co-director of the UCLA Cardiovascular Center at the medical school.
HCAI is focused on expanding equitable access to health care for all Californians by ensuring every community has an adequate health workforce, safe and reliable health care facilities, and health information that can lead to better, more affordable care.
