Psychology professor Robert Bjork and history professor Arch Getty have been selected by the UCLA Academic Senate as the recipients of the 2015-2016 Faculty Research Lectureships. Since 1986, the Senate has awarded this title each year to two faculty members — one from the natural sciences and one from the humanities, social disciplines or creative arts.
Bjork is a distinguished research professor in the field of cognitive psychology. He has been recognized extensively in the field of psychology, including several times by American Psychological Association. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a past recipient of UCLA's Distinguished Teaching Award. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Minnesota before earning his Ph.D. from Stanford University.
Getty focuses on modern Russian history and the history of Stalinism and the Soviet Communist Party. Getty has been a John Simon Guggenheim Fellow, a research fellow for the Russian State Humanities University and a senior fellow at Columbia's Harriman Insitute and Harvard's Davis Center. He received his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania before earning his Ph.D. from Boston College.
As recipients of the Faculty Research Lectureship, Getty and Bjork will each present a lecture on a topic of their choice during the 2015-16 academic year. The lectures are open to the campus community.
