Robert Schiestl, UCLA professor of pathology and laboratory medicine, radiation oncology and environmental health sciences, has been named to America's Registry of Outstanding Professionals for 2015.
Schiestl is being honored, in the category of Higher Education-Pathology and Cancer Research, for his cutting-edge work in cancer research, genetic instability, DNA repair, bone marrow transplantation and cancer prevention. Selected from a pool of 1,200 professional colleagues in his field, Schiestl will be recognized with a photo on display in Times Square in New York City.
Schiestl is director of the UCLA Center for Environmental Genomics and a member of the UCLA Cancer Center, the UCLA Center of Occupational and Environmental Health, the UCLA Interdepartmental Program in Molecular Toxicology and the UCLA ACCESS Graduate Program steering committee. In 2014, he was selected as the Professional of the Year by Strathmore’s Who’s Who in Higher Education, Pathology and Cancer Research. He received his Ph.D. in biology and genetics from the University of Vienna in Austria.
