Put on a headset and instantly feel like you’ve been beamed into a performance of Beethoven’s timeless Fifth Symphony, conducted by LA Philharmonic Orchestra music and artistic director Gustavo Dudamel. The virtual concert is provided by VAN Beethoven, the LA Phil’s high-tech touring truck, coming to campus on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The four-minute experience, made possible with new Oculus virtual reality technology, immerses participants in a 360-degree performance at Walt Disney Concert Hall. VAN Beethoven’s visit to UCLA, which has been arranged by the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, is one in a series of stops across the city through Oct. 18. Free, open to the general public and wheelchair-accessible, VAN Beethoven will be parked at the curb northwest of UCLA’s Schoenberg Music Building, just south of the flagpole on Dickson Court South.
Note: Oculus technology has been approved for use by people 13 years or older without a history of epilepsy, seizures or convulsions. Use by anyone under 18 will require a parent waiver.
