UCLA faculty, staff and students have an opportunity to receive a used bike or bike parts for free on Bike (Re)cycling Day, Sunday, Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. UCLA Transportation and UCPD will distribute abandoned bikes and bike parts to members of the UCLA community during the annual event, being held on the rooftop of Parking Structure 8.
Some of the bikes are in decent working order and some may need a light tune-up. Others have been stripped down to the frame -- good for replacement parts or to build your own bike from the ground up.
This year, participation at the popular event will be based on a random lottery being held by UCLA Transportation. This new registration process will reduce the chaos and tent-pitching of previous years, while helping to create an equal opportunity to get a free ride.
