Stephanie Jamison, distinguished professor of Asian languages and cultures, has been elected to the Fellowship of the British Academy for the humanities and social sciences.
The British Academy is the U.K.'s national body dedicated to the study of peoples, cultures and societies. First proposed in 1899, the academy was officially established through a royal charter in 1902. Each year, the academy selects scholars who have distinguished themselves in the fields of humanities and social sciences to become a fellow.
Jamison has focused her research on Indo-Iranian, Sanskrit and Middle Indo-Aryan languages and textual materials. Her work spans literature and poetics, religion and law, mythology and ritual and gender studies in these languages and texts.
