Marcelo Suárez-Orozco, dean of the UCLA Graduate School of Education & Information Studies and distinguished professor of education, and his wife, Carola Suárez-Orozco, professor of education, have been invited to speak at a conference titled, “Trafficking in Human Beings: Modern Slavery,” in Vatican City.
The immigration scholars will speak on “Global Infamy: Growth, Patterns, and the Meaning of Forced Migration in the New Millennium.” The conference is presented by the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, a supranational institute for the progress of science, and will take place Nov. 2 and 3.
Marcelo Suárez-Orozco will also present at the Ponticial Academy of Science's 2013 Workshop on “Bread and Brain, Education and Poverty” immediately following the conference. He will share his paper "Educating Immigrant Children," which focuses on advances in biotechnologies, education, and brain sciences that may be used to combat hunger and malnutrition.
