What is the role of art in the public sphere? The destruction of Diego Rivera’s mural for the RCA Building in New York City is one of the best known examples of censorship in the United States. An upcoming discussion, led by Anna Indych-Lopez, department chair of art history at the City University of New York, will focus on the controversy within the context of artistic/architectural collaboration and the diverging views of public art in the 1930s. The free event will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, in the Chicano Studies Research Center Library, Haines Hall Room 144.
