The Department of State’s Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations recently announced the selection of Morphosis Architects, founded and led by AIA Gold Medalist and UCLA architecture and urban design distinguished professor Thom Mayne, to design the new U.S. Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon. As design director and leader of the firm, Mayne provides overall vision, project leadership and direction to Morphosis.
Morphosis was selected from a "very talented" shortlist of three architecture/engineering teams that advanced to the final round of presentations and interviews, according to a statement by the U.S. State Department.
"Morphosis presented a strong, cohesive team with over 50 years of collaborative experience," according to a statement. "Their presentation demonstrated the management and design approach required to successfully execute this project, as well as a thorough understanding of the importance and impact of an American Embassy in Beirut."
