A federal magistrate issued an order on Feb. 16 compelling Apple to assist the government in bypassing the security features of an iPhone 5C used by one of the perpetrators of the December 2015 San Bernardino attack. Apple is opposing the order, arguing that the government's demand to “build a backdoor into our products . . . would undermine the very freedoms and liberty our government is meant to protect.”
On Thursday, Feb. 25, 4-5 p.m., learn about the technological, legal, policy, and business implications of the decryption order from John Villasenor, UCLA professor of electrical engineering, public policy, and management, as well as a visiting professor of law. He is also a nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and a National Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford.
