Timothy Deming, a professor of chemistry, biochemistry and bioengineering at UCLA, has been appointed as an associate editor of the American Chemical Societ Journal, Biomacromolecules.
Biomacromolecules focuses on interdisciplinary investigations exploring the interactions of macromolecules with biological systems and their environments as well as biological approaches to the design of polymeric materials. The journal covers, among other topics, sustainable chemistry, biomacromolecular assembly, bioprocessing and biorecycling.
Deming's research interests include polymer and materials synthesis and biomedical applications of polypeptide materials. He has received numerous recognitions and awards, including being named a fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering and an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellow.
He joined UCLA in 2004. From 2006-2011 he served as chair of the department of bioengineering. Prior to UCLA, he was on the faculty at UC Santa Barbara. He received a B.S. in chemistry from UC Irvine and a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley, and he completed an NIH postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
