Join the UCLA Hammer Museum in celebrating Armenian tightrope masters Zhora and Knyaz with the film screening of “The Last Tightrope Dancer in Armenia,” 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 27 at the Billy Wilder Theater. A discussion with filmmaker Inna Sahakyan will follow.
The film captures the shared hope of the former rivals, now in their late 70s, as they strive to continue their ancient art through the only tightrope dancer remaining in Armenia,16-year-old Hovsep, who was adopted by Zhora. The free event is the latest in the Hammer's “I Am Armenian" film series commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
