The UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television has appointed two entertainment industry insiders to residencies. Three-time Academy Award-winning designer James Acheson has been named the 2015 Swarovski Designer in Residence. Distinguished film and television hairstylist Silvia Baker is teaching this quarter as the inaugural M·A·C Cosmetics Artist in Residence in Make-up and Hair Design.
Professor Deborah Nadoolman Landis, founding director, TFT's David C. Copley Center for Costume Design, secured both residencies. Acheson will focus on research and critiques to challenge UCLA TFT graduate design students while Baker is currently teaching a 10-week class that examines the centrality of make-up and hair design in film.
Acheson has created costumes for many high-profile films, including "The Last Emperor," "Dangerous Liaisons," "Restoration," "Brazil" and "Spiderman." Baker's credits include "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home," "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock," and "Silkwood."
