Eugene Volokh and Adam Winkler, on faculty in the UCLA School of Law, were ranked Number 4 and Number 20, respectively, in a list of the ‘"Top 25 Law Professors by Judicial Citation," based on a study authored by University of St. Thomas School of Law researchers. The researchers calculated their rankings by determining legal scholars whose academic articles had been most cited in opinions over the last five years in the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Courts of Appeals all state high courts.
Volokh, the Gary T. Schwartz Distinguished Professor of Law at UCLA, specializes in tort law, religious freedom law and free speech law. Before joining UCLA, he clerked on the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals and with Justice Sandra Day O'Connor on the Supreme Court. He is founder and co-author of "The Volokh Conspiracy," a blog hosted by the Washington Post.
Winkler focuses on Constitutional law, particularly gun control legislation and matters of corporate political speech. He is a frequent commentator and prolific author whose opinion pieces have appeared in outlets including the New York Times, Washington Post and The Atlantic. Winkler is author of the book "Gunfight: The Battle over the Right to Bear Arms in America."
