Peter Taylor, an alumnus of UCLA, will speak on “UC’s Financial Challenges and the Systemwide Response” on Monday, May 19, 1-3 p.m. His talk is part of the UCLA Emeriti/Retirees Relations Center’s 45th Anniversary Celebration Lectures.
Taylor joined UC in 2009, serving as systemwide executive vice president and chief financial officer, with oversight of a myriad of financial matters for the university, including accounting, external finance, banking and cash management, strategic sourcing and risk management. He recently left UC to become president of the nonprofit Educational Credit Management Corp. Foundation, which mentors and provides scholarships for low-income students to attend college.
Prior to joining the UC system, Taylor had a long career at Lehman Brothers and worked with several state and local governments, as well as electric and natural gas utilities in California, Arizona and Nevada.
Active in the community, Taylor has served on a variety of boards and commissions. In 2004, he was appointed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to the California Performance Review Commission, which was charged with reviewing and recommending ways to reform the framework of state government. Previous to that, he was appointed by Gov. Gray Davis to the California Student Aid Commission for 2000-2002.
Taylor has served as president of the UCLA Alumni Association (1996-1998) and chair of the board of directors of the UCLA Foundation, the primary volunteer fundraising organization for the campus. He is also a member of the J. Paul Getty Trust and, since December, 2000, he has been a member of the board of directors of Edison International.
