Rebeca Méndez has received a 2016 Vision over Violence Award for her work with the Los Angeles Commission on Assaults Against Women. Méndez donated the services of her studio to help the nonprofit rebrand and reposition its mission. Méndez worked with studio partner Adam Eeuwens, as well as UCLA undergraduate students in her courses on brand labs, internships and guided research.
Méndez is a professor in the UCLA School of Arts and Architecture in the Department of Design Media Arts. She received her Master of Fine Arts from the Art Center College of Design. She specializes in photography, 16mm film, installation and video art, and her work deals with topics of culture, perception and representation. She is a California Community Foundation Fellow and a member of Mexico City's Artist Pension Trust.
The Los Angeles Commission on Assaults Against Women is a nonprofit organization that combats domestic, sexual and relationship violence against women. The rebrand by Rebeca Méndez Studio led to an immediate rise in donations received by the organization. An in-house design director at tjhe studio continues to work with the commission.
