UCLA historian publishes new book on Afghanistan

Nile Green, the William Andrews Clark Professor of history and director of the Program on Central Asia in the UCLA International Institute, has edited a new book, “Afghan History Through Afghan Eyes,” published by Oxford University Press. The book was recently reviewed in the New York Review of Books. The book, one of eight Green has published in the last six years, is based on a conference he organized through the UCLA Program on Central Asia with a grant from the American Institute of Afghanistan Studies.

Green is primarily a historian of the Muslim communities of South Asia from the 18^th to the early 20^th centuries. His books have ranged over the forms of Islam which evolved among the tribal societies of early modern Afghans to the intersection of religion and colonial service among the Muslim soldiers of the British Empire.
