The UCLA Library system has established new unified loan periods to make it easier for UCLA and UC faculty, staff and students to manage items checked out from the Library’s circulating collections.
Announced by UCLA University Librarian Ginny Steel, the new policy unifies, and in many cases extends, loan periods for all categories of items in the UCLA Library system’s nine libraries. Previously, check-out periods and renewal policies varied from library to library.
Faculty can now check out books from any UCLA Library for 180 days — six months from the date checked out — and the books are renewable after that. Staff and students — both undergraduates and graduate students — can check out books for 90 days and renew after that.
Faculty, staff and students can now check out bound serial volumes for 14 days and renew them. Unbound series can be checked out for seven days and are non-renewable; exceptions are unbound serials in the Arts, College and Music libraries, which cannot be checked out.
The new policy does not apply to reference materials and other non-circulating items, nor does it apply to reserve materials, which retain the loan periods designated by the instructor who put them on reserve. In addition, the new policy applies only to UCLA and UC faculty, staff and students, and not to any other UCLA Library cardholders.
