UCLA professor emeritus Christopher Ehret has been working as a primary adviser on the PBS series, "The Great Civilizations of Africa," produced by Henry Louis Gates Jr. 

The series will be airing on PBS stations nationwide on the evenings of Feb. 27, March 1 and 2. There are six episodes, two to be shown each evening. The series covers a wide range of African history, from the common ancestral origins of humanity to the end of the 19th century. You can view the trailer for the series here.

Ehret is a professor of African history and African historical linguistics, whose research focuses on linguistic taxonomy and reconstruction with the archaeological record. He has published eight books and over 70 scholarly articles on a wide range of historical, linguistic and anthropological subjects. Ehret has also contributed to a number of encyclopedias on African topics and on world history.
