UCLA Sustainability team members were honored as "energy champions" by Energy Upgrade California during a recent UCLA men's basketball game.
The Nov. 15 game — which saw UCLA defeat Cal Poly 88-83 at Pauley Pavilion — was dedicated to sustainability. The UCLA Sustainability team, led by chief sustainability officer Nurit Katz, was presented with the game ball and an award of recognition for efforts that have made UCLA a more sustainable campus.
Among recent projects, UCLA’s intramural field was converted from grass to artificial turf, a move that saves 6.5 million gallons of water a year. Renovations to Pauley Pavilion have earned the building Gold LEED certification, and the placement of 22 multi-stream waste receptacles are helping to achieve zero waste at basketball games.
