Webb Marner, adjunct professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at UCLA School of Engineering and Applied Science, has been awarded honorary membership by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
The award, which is the highest honor bestowed by the society, recognizes him for his “significant contributions to the mechanical engineering profession through research in enhanced heat transfer, gas-side fouling, and process engineering; outstanding teaching and student mentoring; and extensive, exemplary professional service.”
Marner has dedicated 26 years in research and development at Caltech’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), plus seven years investigating heat transfer. Among his wide-ranging work, he and his team supported the testing of the JPL projects Cassini, Mars Pathfinder and Mars Exploration Rover. He joined the UCLA faculty in 1991 and continues to teach courses in the thermal sciences.
