The UCLA International Institute serves as a forum for world leaders, scholars, journalists and artists and numerous other notables every year. To note just a few from 2014:

  • Samantha Power, U.S. Permanent Representative to the U.N., discussed the freedom of the press at the Annual Daniel Pearl Memorial Lecture.
  • Melinda Gates of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation was interviewed by Renee Montagne of NPR's “Morning Edition” at the Burkle Center’s 2014–15 Arnold Harberger Distinguished Lecture on Economic Development. 
  • U.S. Ambassador Cameron Munter spoke on the history of the U.S.-Pakistan relationship. 
  • Poet and film director Toshi Washizu spoke at the screening of his 1984 film, “Issei: The First Generation,” which was restored with the help of UCLA professor Lane Hirabayash.
