Andrew Flores, public opinion and policy fellow at the Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law, was awarded the “Best Paper in LGBT Politics” at the Midwest Political Science Association’s annual convention held this month in Chicago.
His award-winning paper is titled, “Conditional Intergroup Contact and Threat” and it examines the effect that lesbian, gay and bisexual density has on individual attitudes about relationship recognition rights for same-sex couples. It considered why some demographic groups may be positively influenced by greater LGB population densities and others may be negatively influenced. The paper found that the effect of LGB populations on people’s attitudes differs by individual demographic characteristics.
