Gabriel Rossman is a professor of sociology and an expert on immoral economic transactions, fads, mass media, pop music radio, and the Academy Awards. His current research emphasizes how people hide disreputable economic transactions like bribery and prostitution. In addition, he studies how ideas and behaviors spread.

Rossman has performed multiple statistical analyses of the film and radio industries. He has developed an algorithm to calculate a film’s “Oscar appeal” and determined the amount of box-office boost movies get when they get nominated for an Academy Award. His book looks at how radio stations decide which pop songs to play.

Rossman teaches statistics, sociology of markets, and the sociology of mass media, including film, radio and television.
