Dr. Karim Chamie, an assistant professor of urology at UCLA’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, has been named as a recipient of Stop Cancer's Research Career Development Award (RCDA). Stop Cancer’s award comes in the form of a research grant valued at more than $300,000, to fund three years of efforts in cancer study.
Chamie’s primary research interests include quality of care for patients with urologic malignancies. His clinical interests include all areas of urologic oncology, with a particular emphasis on bladder cancer. Chamie's work also extends to the fields of prostate, testicular and kidney cancer.
The awards are given to the most promising scientists at UCLA’s Jonsson, USC Norris and City of Hope comprehensive cancer centers. Awardees are selected each year based on nominations of each cancer center’s internal peer review recommendation. The honor is one of the most competitive among junior investigators in all of academic oncology in Southern California. It recognizes efforts in medical, surgical and radiological oncology.
