The important new scholarship being produced by UCLA’s Chicano Studies Research Center (CSRC) in disciplines ranging from music and poetry to the visual arts, was recently recognized with 10 International Latino Book Awards.

Four books published by the CSRC in 2012 won awards in eight different categories at the Latino Literacy Now’s 15th annual International Latino Book Awards, held May 30 at the Instituto Cervantes in New York City. It was the largest number of International Latino Book Awards that CRSC has won in a single year, bringing its total number of awards to 24.

The four books that garnered awards — including four first-place, three second-place and three honorable mentions — include:

• The Arhoolie Foundation's "Strachwitz Frontera Collection of Mexican and Mexican American Recordings"
by Agustín Gurza, with essays by Jonathan Clark and Chris Strachwitz;

• "Rafael Ferrer" by Deborah Cullen;

• The second edition of "Floricanto en Aztlán," by Alurista, with illustrations by Judithe Hernández.

• The Latino Theatre Initiative/Center Theatre Group Papers, 1980-2005, by Chantal Rodríguez.
