Louis Gomez, chair of the UCLA Department of Education, has been elected to the National Academy of Education. A professor in the Urban Schooling Division and the Principal Leadership Division at UCLA’s Graduate School of Education and Information Studies, he is an expert in the learning sciences, applied cognitive science, organizational learning, and STEM teaching and learning.

“Louis Gomez is an extraordinary scholar doing fundamental work at the nexus of technology, teaching and learning,” said Dean Marcelo Suárez-Orozco. “His election to the world’s most august education academy is yet another indication of his towering standing in our field."

Founded in 1965, the NAE advances high quality education research, and its use, in policy formation and practice.

“The men and women in the National Academy of Education have contributed mightily to improving education opportunity through research and scholarship in our country and in our world,” said Gomez. “To be counted in their number is humbling.”
