Following an extensive national search, Dr. Robert Cherry has been selected as chief medical and quality officer for UCLA Health System. In this capacity, he will lead quality improvement efforts across the entire health system with the goal of achieving world-class clinical outcomes that set the standard in healthcare delivery and innovation.

Prior to coming to UCLA, Dr. Cherry served as director of clinical and operational excellence at Navigant Consulting. He was responsible for strategic development and operational implementation of key healthcare initiatives, including early adoption of accountable care organization models, physician integration, quality and safety systems.
 
Previously, Dr. Cherry served as chief medical officer and vice president for clinical effectiveness at Loyola University Medical Center, where he was responsible for developing and implementing systems that foster innovation, and for the effective and safe delivery of care, which was accompanied by improvements in patient outcomes and satisfaction. While at Loyola, Dr. Cherry was named one of the "100 Hospital and Health System CMOs to Know" in Becker's Hospital Review. He was also a professor of surgery in the department of surgery.
 
Dr. Cherry obtained his medical degree from Columbia University and received a master of science in healthcare management from Harvard University. He has regularly consulted on behalf of the American College of Surgeons.
