Vladimir Keilis-Borok, a UCLA seismologist and mathematical geophysicist who, along with his research team, developed a method intended to accurately predict earthquakes months in advance, died Oct. 19 after a long illness. He was 92.

Lukowa Kidima, a linguist in the UCLA Library who also taught in the department of linguistics, passed away on August 21, 2013, at the UCLA Medical Center following a stroke. He was 63.

Shuhsi Kao, emerita professor in the UCLA Department of French and Francophone Studies, died Aug. 9 in Madison, Wis. from complications of diabetes, heart disease and lung disease. She was 68.

In Memoriam: UCLA Film and Television Archive’s Charles Hopkins, the longest-serving employee at UCLA Film and Television Archive, died on July 27 at 69 from a number of health complications.

Amin Banani, founder of the Iranian Studies Program at UCLA, the western world’s first bachelor of arts program in Iranian studies, died July 28 in Santa Monica at 86.

Longtime Facilities Management 'chief' has passed away. Randy Cook, who spent 41 years in Facilities Management at UCLA helping keep things on campus working properly, died suddenly June 20.

Dr. David H. Solomon, who led a major expansion of the UCLA Department of Medicine, died July 9. He was 90.

Theater Professor Gary Gardner, who spent 40 years teaching at UCLA and directing wildly successful student musical productions that entertained the entire campus, died Saturday, June 15, of natural causes at his home in Los Angeles. He was 69.

John McTague, a distinguished scientist who wove together careers as an academic, government science policy adviser and director of an industrial research laboratory, and a was professor of chemisty at UCLA died June 7. He was 74.

Dr. Douglas Junge, a professor emeritus of oral biology and medicine at the UCLA School of Dentistry, passed away on May 5. He was 75.
