Café UCLA is back — in Westwood! The Bruin-themed café, which hosted alumni and fans in Paris during the 2024 Summer Olympics, returns Friday, this time in honor of the 50th anniversary of UCLA alumnus Arthur Ashe’s Wimbledon victory.
Ashe, who graduated from UCLA in 1966, beat fellow alum Jimmy Connors in 1975 to become the first and only Black man to win the Wimbledon men’s tennis singles title. Café UCLA will also pay homage to Ashe’s legacy as an advocate for HIV/AIDS awareness and civil rights.
The pop-up will feature giveaways, a limited-edition activewear collection inspired by the 1965 UCLA Tennis uniforms, and a panel discussion.
The discussion, from 2–5 p.m. on June 28, will be moderated by Sue Enquist, who won 11 national titles as a UCLA softball player and coach. The panelists include:
- Jenny Johnson Jordan, UCLA beach volleyball coach and alumna
- Chaitali Mukherjee, Arthur Ashe Student Health & Wellness Center executive director
- Jonathan Franklin, former NFL player and UCLA football alumnus
- Joel Drucker, tennis historian
- Alexis Ramirez, UCLA Softball student athlete
Presented by Associated Students UCLA (ASUCLA) in collaboration with the Arthur Ashe Legacy at UCLA, the Arthur Ashe Student Health and Wellness Center, and the UCLA Alumni Association, Café UCLA will take place from June 27–29 at 1037 Broxton Avenue.
