“UCLA didn’t just launch my basketball career,” says alumnus Kareem-Abdul Jabbar. “It gave me the tools and confidence to pursue life off the court as a writer and advocate for social justice.”
In the video above, the NBA Hall of Famer, author and champion of human rights talks about the groundbreaking work being done at UCLA in treating cancer and other diseases — work, he says, that has literally saved his life through his battles with leukemia, prostate cancer and other health issues.
“America needs UCLA and the entire UC system,” he says. “And now, UCLA needs us. Let’s stand up for the university that has given us so much.”
