An earthquake of preliminary magnitude 4.4 rolled through Los Angeles at 6:25 Monday morning. The United States Geological Survey said the light quake had an epicenter under the Santa Monica Mountains two miles south-southeast of Encino, California. That location is roughly five miles or more from the UCLA campus, but the quake was widely felt in the Los Angeles area.
Campus officials had no received no reports of damage or injuries but continue checking. Early media reports used Westwood, CA as the reference point for the quake, based on the original USGS report.
