Join UCLA and UC ANR climate scientist Daniel Swain this evening (Thursday, June 26 at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET) for a discussion about the likelihood of a strong Southwest heatwave, whether a weather forecast contributed to a Lake Tahoe boating tragedy, and a review of recent federal activity against climate science.
Swain will discuss a flurry of new federal actions, such as the loss of hurricane data and climate data, the eviction of the National Science Foundation from their building, or the deprecating and rewriting of Climate.gov, the climate page run by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. With summer in full swing, Swain will provide insight into the chances of a serious July heatwave and early monsoonal moisture in the southwestern U.S. He’ll also share context and analysis into a storm forecast last weekend at Lake Tahoe, and misconceptions about the forecast’s link (or lack thereof) to boating deaths during the storm.
