Former UCLA football standout and assistant coach John Johnson died in his sleep on Oct. 14 at the age of 96.

Ivanov a world-renowned linguist, Indo-Europeanist, anthropologist and literary scholar was a member of the UCLA community for the past quarter-century.

Bill Brown, professor emeritus of design media arts at UCLA, renowned for his talents as a visual communicator and a dedicated mentor to students died Sept. 9. He was 83.

Catterall was known internationally for his studies on the cognitive effects of music and the arts on education.

Harold Williams, former dean of the UCLA Anderson School of Management and former UC regent, died July 30 at his home in Santa Ynez. He was 89.

The two-time national coach of the year led UCLA to five NCAA championships and seven conference titles.

Knapp held various leadership positions on many UCLA boards and commissions associated with fundraising, faculty recruitment and retention, alumni affairs and the Anderson School of Management.

John Friedmann as an internationally renowned pioneer in urban theory and planning and a central figure in the founding of what is today the Department of Urban Planning at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs.

The UCLA alumna devoted nearly her entire professional career to the campus. “She embodied the essence we all treasure in a colleague, teammate and friend.”

Warren, who left a lasting imprint on the school and the nation’s commercial laws, died May 30. He was 92.

“What we will always admire most about Jerry was his singular focus on the impact he could make, rather than on the plaudits or praise he could receive for it,” said Chancellor Gene Block.

Anderson and her late husband, John, provided the UCLA Anderson School of Management with transformational gifts that positioned the school as a global leader in management education.

Lloyd Cotsen, former chief executive officer and chairman of the board of Neutrogena Corporation and longtime philanthropist to UCLA, died at his Beverly Hills home on May 8. He was 88.

Dr. Raymond Schultze, former director of the UCLA Medical Center who also served concurrently as administrative vice chancellor for six years, died Friday, April 14, in Thousand Oaks, California. He was 83.

Thomas Minor, 64, a professor in the departments of psychology and psychiatry and behavioral sciences, died from bladder cancer Monday, March 27, in Burbank, California, with his family at his bedside.

Mark Sawyer, 45, died March 26 in Los Angeles. He was a professor in the UCLA departments of African American Studies and Political Science.

UCLA Campus Architect Jeffrey B. Averill, 61, who oversaw the design of every major campus building for 15 years and shepherded UCLA’s transformation into an environmentally friendly institution, died Feb. 27.

Appleby, an emerita professor of history, was a nationally renowned historian who wrote prolifically about America’s founding fathers.

John Russell Cauble, 83, a professor emeritus in the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television who headed the multimillion-dollar renovation of Royce Hall auditorium in 1998 four years after the Northridge earthquake, died Wednesday, Dec. 7.

A Distinguished Professor of Linguistics, Schuh died Nov. 8 after an illness of several months. He was an outstanding member of the department in teaching, research and service.

A UCLA alumna and staff member for 28 years, Loh died on Nov. 5. She was 58.

Bill Zaima, UCLA's first women's tennis coach who served the team in different roles for 40 years, died Thursday, Nov. 17, in Los Angeles due to illness. He was 69.

Donald Findley, who transformed a financially ailing student organization, ASUCLA, into a thriving enterprise at UCLA , with his business acumen and vision for the campus, died Sunday, Nov. 13.

Richard Maxwell, UCLA School of Law dean emeritus and Michael J. Connell Distinguished Professor of Law Emeritus, died Oct. 7 in Austin, Texas, on his 97th birthday.

Widely admired for her excellent teaching and extraordinary student mentorship, Donald died on Oct. 16 at the age of 43.
