In recent years the department has been trying to make labs more engaging; safer-at-home orders demonstrated the benefits of letting students design their own experiments.
The design could also be altered to detect other infectious diseases and airborne viral threats by continuously monitoring the air of indoor environments.
A team led by Andrea Bertozzi and Mason Porter will use mathematical modeling to provide insights to those developing strategies to mitigate the disease’s spread.
